FARMERS bustled their livestock into pens for the final time at Holsworthy's Underlane market, last week. After 106 years trading at the site the gavel fell for the last time on Wednesday, August 20, before the livestock market relocates to the new £7million agribusiness centre on the outskirts of the town. Memories were shared between old friends and new and more than 400 people passed through the gates to be part of the day — which marked the end of an era. Retired members of the industry, many of who have attended the market for more than 50 years, joined the next generation of farmers to see their animals sold. Meanwhile, others who visit the market for a day out, perhaps to the barbers or bank, soaked up the atmosphere. Kivells has run the market for several decades and will continue to do so at the agribusiness centre, just off the A388.
