The community was out in force last week to enjoy this year’s Bude Carnival.

The annual event has been entertaining the people of Bude for more than one-hundred years, launching the festivities in December of 1920 and ever since it has been a staple item in the calendars of those nearby.

And this year’s event was no different with residents and visitors of Bude making the most of the family friendly occasion.

2023’s festivities were launched by ‘Citizen of the Year’, Sue Jarvis, with live music and dance displays ready to entertain the crowds.

However, the highlight for many are the variety of competitions on offer, from ‘Best Prince’, ‘Best Fairy Queen’, and ‘Children’s Tableaux’, to ‘Vintage & Classic Vehicle’ and ‘Pub/Bar’, there was something for everyone to get stuck in to.

But what is a carnival without a procession? This year’s event was a treat for the senses, with music, dancing and of course floats for all to enjoy.

A spokesperson from the carnival’s organisers said: “Thank you Bude community and every visitor who came and joined our Carnival Fete on the Castle Lawn and the fantastic evening procession in Town! It was amazing to see the streets lined with people cheering on all the floats as they paraded through Bude.

“The sun shone for us and the atmosphere was incredible!

“Thank you to Fiddlefit, the Barrel Seagals and All@C for their wonderful music on the bandstand.”

The carnival also serves as a way to raise money for local charities, donations can be made here: gofund.me/59c726fb
