THERE?was an opportunity for the people of Launceston to learn about future health provisions in the town and the latest developments in Cornwall Council’s planning service.
A Community Network Panel meeting was set to take place on Wednesday, September 21 in Launceston Town Hall at 7pm, after the Post went to press.
The NHS and local clinical commissioning group were due to send along representatives who, along with medical centre business manager Peter Harper, were set to discuss local health provision and provide the public with an update on the proposed expansion of the medical centre.
Cllr Edwina Hannaford, Cornwall Council’s planning portfolio holder, and David Edmondson, strategic developments manager for Cornwall Council, were set to give a presentation on the latest developments in the planning service.
An update on applications to the ‘Local Devolution Fund’, which can be used to help local councils and organisations take on the running of services and property in the network area, was also scheduled for the meeting.
Cornwall Councillor Neil Burden, chair of Launceston Community Network Panel, said: “I do encourage people to come along and hear of the recent progress with the new plans for a substantial extension of our local health centre. They can also discuss how the new Cornwall Local Plan and latest government policies will affect our locality with the portfolio holder for planning and senior planning officer.”
The Community Network Panel meets quarterly to discuss matters that affect Launceston and the surrounding areas. They will agree priorities that can be delivered by Cornwall Council and partners — these could include the police or health services.
The panel’s current priorities include; road and broadband infrastructure, local health provision and neighbourhood planning.
The panel is made up of all five Cornwall Councillors for the area and representatives of the 16 parishes in the community network.
