LAUNCESTON’S watch commander has expressed his thanks to all who supported the town’s fire station’s open day on Saturday (August 6).
There were four different displays on the day to give people a feel of the incidents tackled by firefighters — including a chip pan fire, car cutting display and an example of a house fire. There was also a ladder display, narrated via a megaphone by local youngster Harvey.
There was also a human fruit machine and visitors could look around the fire trucks, purchase cakes and look at various stalls.
There were around a couple of hundred visitors on the day, funds were raised for the station and in the region of £180 was also raised for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Watch commander Andy Sleeman said: “We just really appreciate everyone turning up and promoting the event for us beforehand.”
Mr Sleeman expressed his thanks to firefighter Ryan Christophers for his help with organising the event, and to the town mayor Brian Hogan for attending the day.
