LEZANT Church was ablaze with wonderful flower arrangements recently.

The festival was organised to raise money for a sound system for the church and appropriately the event was entitled Songs of Praise — Hymns Ancient and Modern.

There were over 20 arrangements on display depicting a great range of hymns, from the very traditional ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness’ to the more modern ‘Who put the Colours in the Rainbow’, which featured a vibrant container of coloured creatures and objects designed by the children of Trekenner School.

Visitors came from far and wide and refreshments were served and enjoyed over both days.

On Sunday evening a songs of praise service was conducted by Canon Anne Brown and featured the Holtan Carter family, who provided an inspiring variety of Gospel songs accompanied by John Erik Holtan on his ‘baby’ grand piano.

Over £850 was raised towards the sound system and both contributors and visitors hugely enjoyed the weekend.

The following weekend a congregation of 20 adults, three children, 12 dogs and two cats gathered in the church for a Service of Celebration for pets, taken by Canon Brown.

All the animals were very well behaved and there were no incidents or mishaps.

Thanks to a gloriously sunny afternoon, everyone was able to gather in the churchyard after the service for tea, cake and treats for the pets and a great time was had by all.
