AN application has been made for funding to help pay for the transfer of Camelford’s Clease Car Park from Cornwall Council to the town council.

Camelford’s mayor, Rob Rotchell told councillors at last Thursday’s meeting that the Camelford area network was awarded £14,829 from Cornwall Council to help with any devolution project — projects where town and parish councils are taking over responsibility from the county council.

Camelford Town Council has been keen to take on Clease Car Park, but it has stipulated that the car park needs to be resurfaced and relined before it accepts it.

The sum of money covers the network’s three divisional members and various towns and villages — St Breward, St Teath, Delabole, Boscastle, Tintagel, Camelford and Davidstow.

Cllr Rotchell said all parish councils were contacted, but he was not aware of any applications being submitted by the March 1 deadline, so the town council has applied for the whole sum towards Clease Car Park.

The mayor said there is a bill in the region of £26,000 to complete the work at the car park, and the council has already been offered £10,000 from Cornwall Council towards the amount — leaving the town council £16,000 to find.

“We can then reopen discussions with Cornwall Council about Clease Car Park, have it relined etc and take over ownership.”

It was proposed by Cllr Andy Shaw and seconded by Cllr Alan Burgis to go ahead with the retrospective application for funding. All councillors voted in favour.
