A BIG breakfast was held at Sutcombe Village Hall on Saturday, February 23, raising funds for the hall and also St Andrew’s Church in Sutcombe.

The event was very well supported, with 155 breakfasts being served during the course of the morning.

It was the fourth such big breakfast held in the hall, and organisers generally serve between 15 to 160 breakfasts.

Busy in the kitchen were members of the Sutcombe Village Hall committee and the church fundraising committee.

Alistair Cawsey, chairman of the village hall committee, who himself was helping in the kitchen, said: “It’s a joint effort, we all join in together. It takes a lot of staff to run the event but we all pitch in and all do our bit.”

The event raised roughly £430 for each organisation.

The money will be put towards general funds — the church had work to the bell frame carried out a couple of years ago and the hall needs ongoing funds in the account.

Organisers were pleased with how the event went.

Alistair said: “It was very successful. We’re very pleased. It’s lovely that the event is well supported from people, not just from Sutcombe, but also other local communities as well.”

When asked if there were plans for a fifth big breakfast, Alistair said: “I haven’t recovered from this one yet! We’ve done four and with it being as well attended as it was, it probably would happen again.”
