Natasha Young, a Launceston lady, wants raise funds for the charity SANDS.

SANDS is the leading UK charity concerned with stillbirth and neonatal death and exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to ensure that anyone affected by the death of a baby receives the best possible care and support for as long as they need it.

SANDS provides bereavement support services locally through around 100 regional support groups.

SANDS supports and promotes research into better understanding of the causes of baby deaths and saving babies’ lives.

The charity also raises awareness of baby loss and works with governments, key influencers and other stakeholders to make reducing the number of babies dying a priority nationally and locally.

Over the past 40 years, SANDS has grown into a national charity with a powerful vision — to create a world where fewer babies die.

Natasha intends to walk 90 kilometres (56 miles) in June to raise funds for SANDS.

Launceston Community Market, which meets every Friday at Methodist Central Main Hall and offers a wide range of local-produce and crafts, was delighted to recently donate £150 to her effort.

Coincidentally, this brought the total the market has raised for local charities and good causes to £17,000.
