SOME £200,000 still needs to be raised for the restoration and renovation of Bude Sea Pool.
Despite a successful campaign to take on ownership of the open air pool, specialist surveys have indicated a significant amount of work which needs to be carried out to the structure of the pool.
The Friends of Bude Sea Pool (FoBSP) are also generating funds for lifeguards during the summer season as well as administering the day-to-day running of the pool.
Eighteen months ago, the 80-year-old pool was threatened with closure and possible demolition when its funding was withdrawn. In a remarkable turnaround, the local community and sea pool supporters from across the UK took up the challenge to Save the Sea Pool. The FoBSP was formed last summer, and on March 30 took over management of the pool from Cornwall Council.
Alec Robertson, Leader of Cornwall Council said: "I would like to pay tribute to the Friends of Bude Sea Pool who have worked tirelessly over a number of months to fundraise, recruit members and secure the future of the pool. This is a fantastic example of localism in action."
