A DAY of village fun was had at Tresmeer’s village fete on Saturday, August 3. This year organisers decided to coincide the village fete with a new dog show, open to all.

The event was in aid of raising funds for the village hall’s new roof, which will need approximately £60,000 to complete.

As with many village fetes and events, organisers weren’t sure on how well attended this would be, however, it went down a hit with the locals and visitors alike.

Viv Turner, who is a member of the Tresmeer Village Hall committee, was very pleased with how the day went. She said: “As this was our first dog show, we were very pleased with how it all went.

“We had a lot of variety of dogs, plenty of Jack Russells and many were rescue dogs.”

She explained that this was the village’s first dog show.

Viv continued: “We had never done a dog show before but it went down really well with the locals and many visitors.

“We had Tom and Debbie Heron who were judges for the competition and as local dog trainers they did a brilliant job, very professional.”

The day also consisted of silly sports for the children, with many adults joining in the fun.

There were plenty of stalls, food stands and games in the hall for people to enjoy.

The total made from the event was £200, which apparently could have been more, but the committee was more focused on giving the people and the children something to enjoy.

Viv said: “As a small village we just wanted people to have a good day. The children’s entertainer was quite expensive but we wanted to make it a thing for local people to enjoy.

“We have had new people move into the village and it’s nice to give them something a bit different.”

Viv went onto say that they are still quite a way off reaching the amount needed before they can replace the roof, however she is confident it will become a reality.

She said: “We have bid for lottery funding so that should help us get up to the amount we need if we are successful.

“The village hall is really important to us as we hold lots of events there and gives a sense of community.”

The village’s most recent event was the Produce Show on Saturday, August 17 where people could show what they have been making and growing, pitting themselves against one another — a show that Tresmeer has been doing for years.

Viv wanted to thank the sponsors for this year’s dog show. She said: “I would like to thank Hawksland Hydrotherapy from Wadebridge who sponsored the rosette. Thanks should also go to Pet Stop in Launceston who sponsored prizes for the dog show. Thanks must be given to Tom and Debbie the judges and of course all the local businesses that turned out.

“Ros Boisseau the co-ordinator of the dog show was great as well. To be honest everyone on the show committee pulls their weight and makes the village show a great one.”
