Weir End Farm in Ross-on-Wye, put on a very well attended Open Farm Sunday event on June 7th. The aim of the day was to get the public engaged in farming and the environment.
Hundreds of attendees at the event were treated to a number of activities; there was livestock for visitors to get up close and personal with, there was an activity for adults and children to enjoy which got them thinking about which crops go into different food products, and there was a display of various farm technology on offer; lots of small children were excited to try sitting in a big blue tractor.
There was also less conventional farm technology on display, children looked in wonder as Ally Hunter Blair, a farmer, flew a drone into the sky with a video camera attached. These drones are now used to help the farmers map their fields.
Weir End Farm was just one of the 400 farms in the UK which opened to the public on Sunday. The charity LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) organised the Open Farm Sunday events across the country.
