There might have been no power for a while but that did not dampen the spirits of those in Rilla Mill celebrating the King’s coronation.

Rilla Mill Village Hall was internally dressed for coronation day, May 6, with proceedings starting at 6pm.

Unfortunately there was a serious power cut so no lighting or hot drinks were available but those 35 to 40 people who attended made the best of the evening with picnic teas, competitions organised by hall committee member Julie Bath such a royal quiz and others plus Play Your Cards Right, throwing ducks into pots to score points, and a couple of games of bingo until it was too dim to continue.

It was also a celebration of 60 years of the first village hall with a display by members of the Archive Group and the archive books available to browse.

A cake made by Sue Davies was cut by Darren Bolt and all present enjoyed a delicious slice plus coronation decorated cookies.

The Prince, Princess and supporters were also chosen by guests Guthire and Erica O’Brian for the forthcoming carnival and summer fayre on Saturday, July 29.

They are Bobby Morse (King), Natalie Kilby (Queen), and their attendants Harry Davy and Merryn Davy.

Bouquets were presented to Julia Bath and Sue Davies for their organisation of celebrations.

A spokesperson added: “Many thanks to all who helped and attended to make the joint celebrations a success.”
