THERE was a packed church at Davidstow for a concert with entertainer/singer Johnny Cowling. The evening, which started with a pasty supper, was a combination of gospel and early rock songs with plenty of audience participation along the way. Members of the church had been working on floral arrangements days before — each window deocration symbolised some of the songs that were sung, such as 'Blue Suede Shoes'. Johnny Cowling said: "It's what community is all about — everybody joining together and having a great time.' Churchwarden Peter Brown said: "It was beautiful; it was packed. We could have at a push got another 20 in — but not with such good views." Johnny Cowling drew the tickets for a raffle. The Rev Deryn Roberts thanked him for the evening. Mr Brown also thanked David Upington for arranging the parking outside the church. Money raised from the event will go towards the balance of the tower restoration work and other church bills. Fundraising will start later for the refurbishment of the bells. For the full report, and a round-up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
