THE St Breward Church harvest festival this year was a particularly successful, joyful and sunny occasion.
The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, fruit, vegetables, produce and exquisite butterflies and dragonflies woven in willow.
There was also a scarecrow on the pulpit, bales of straw and wheat sheaves at the altar.
On Sunday the service was particularly well attended, followed by the toddler group service on the Monday.
That evening, following a short service, everyone gathered up the offerings, which were taken down to the village hall for auctioning.
The supper table took up the whole of the length of the hall and, after enjoying pasties and a plethora of tasty puddings, churchwarden Paddy McShee conducted a jovial auction. Bidding was as ever brisk, humorous and generous.
The collection in church raised £93 for the RABI — Royal Agriculture Benevolent Institution.
The supper and auction raised £265 for the church. Caroline Hooper, parochial church council treasurer, expressed a big thank you to all who grew, baked, decorated, donated or attended this important seasonal occasion.
