ON a recent visit to Australia and to Tasmania, Bill Roberts, of Launceston, visited the town hall in Launceston, Tasmania where he presented the mayor with a letter from Launceston's mayor, Cllr Dave Gordon.

Launceston, Tasmania is the daughter city of its Cornish namesake and was named after Capt Philip Gidley King, who was born in Launceston, Cornwall's Southgate Street in April 1758 and who became the third governor of New South Wales.

Launceston, Tasmania mayor Cllr Albert van Zetten, was very interested to hear of the history of Launceston and its Norman castle, St Mary's Church and the arch — in his Launceston buildings are under 200 years old. He said he would like to see more contact between the two Launcestons and gave Bill several items to bring home, including a book about the city.
