A FILIPINO Family Day organised by Merlin McGuire, helped by members of the Catholic parish of St Cuthbert Mayne, took place on Saturday, August 26.

The event took place in Coronation Park in brilliant sunshine. There were team games — red, white and blue — in tug of war and other gentler sports. Filipino food was supplied in abundance.

About 100 people were there. Most were from families who live and work locally, but some who had moved away to Plymouth, Bristol and London returned for the day.

Canon David Annear, Parish Priest, said: “This was a wonderful chance to renew friendships and celebrate the Filipino way of life.”
