The members of Granville Lodge No.3405 held their annual ‘Charity Tea Party’ in the garden of the Masonic Hall in Bude on Sunday, July 3.
Over 50 people attended with members of the lodge inviting friends and family as well as being well supported by members of other lodges and their guests.
The weather was fine for the event and tea was taken in a large marquee provided by one of the lodge members. There was the traditional large selection of sandwiches and cakes together with other tasty treats all prepared by Margaret Reeve, wife of lodge Charity Steward Peter.
As a token of appreciation the Master of Granville Lodge, Andy Bain, presented a bouquet of flowers to Margaret on behalf of all those present. He went on thank those attending for their generous support of the lodge in general and the fund raising events in particular. Local singer Elizabeth Hobbs entertained everyone with a magnificent assortment of songs old and new, classical and modern and she was thanked by Andy for her superb contribution towards the success of the event.
A raffle and ‘wine and chocolates’ draw raised a total of £200 and due to the generosity of those attending and various donations the total sum raised was in excess of £800.
The nominated charity this year was the Masonic Charitable Foundation which is currently being supported by all lodges in Cornwall. The Foundation was set up in 2016 following the merger of four other charities and is based at the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England in London. It administers charitable funds which are allocated to medical research, education, care for the elderly and numerous other local and national charities. It also has emergency funds available for national and international disasters.
Everyone agreed it had been a splendid and very worthwhile afternoon and they departed from Bude Masonic Hall having enjoyed a fine tea and superb entertainment all in good company.
