CORNWALL Air Ambulance attended 14 emergencies in the north of Cornwall in January, eight of which were for medical illness and five as a result of traffic collisions.
An adult man with cardiac illness was taken from Bodmin Moor to the Royal Cornwall Hospital (RCHT) and an elderly man suffering a stroke was also flown from Bodmin Moor to Derriford Hospital.
A third man was flown to Derriford from Delabole after suffering a heart emergency.
The charity’s rapid response vehicles attended two incidents in Padstow, as the weather was too poor to fly.
An elderly woman with breathing problems was driven to Derriford and a man suffering a cardiac emergency was driven to RCHT.
The air ambulance visited Wadebridge twice on the same day — the paramedic crew helped a man suffering a cardiac illness and later a man with multiple injuries from a road accident was flown to RCHT.
In Tintagel a man fell off a roof and sustained head and back injuries. Despite extremely poor weather the air ambulance was able to fly him to RCHT for specialist treatment.
The air ambulance attended two more road accidents in Torpoint on different days. A female driver with head injuries was flown to Derriford and a separate accident resulted in severe injuries for an elderly pedestrian lady who was also flown to Derriford.
A road accident near Camelford required the air ambulance’s attendance, as did a middle aged male driver in Davidstow, following a different road accident.
In order for Cornwall Air Ambulance to coninue operating, £3-million needs to be raised each year.?The charity relies on the generosity of people and businesses in Cornwall.
