FOUR people were made homeless after a fire broke out in some flats in Launceston on Sunday (August 16).
Two fire appliances from Launceston and one from Liskeard were called to one of the four flats that had been converted from a large house in Dunheved Road at approximately 9pm.
Gary Chapman, Station Officer at Launceston said that on arrival, it was clear that the top attic flat was where the fire had started and the fire had become quite severe.
When the breathing apparatus teams entered, the building was heavily smoke logged and there were high heat levels. Over the course of three hours twelve officers wearing breathing apparatus used one jet and two hosereels to extinguish the fire.
Firefighters then made the area safe at midnight by cutting away debris and damping down hotspots.
A spokesman said that the first floor flat suffered from fire damage and the remaining ground floor and basement flat suffered from severe water damage. Due to such damage in the top attic flat, there was a partial collapse in the floor which went into the first floor flat below.
Four people were made homeless as a result of the incident, however, none were injured and they are due to be rehoused by the council.
