GCSE LEAVERS at Holsworthy Community College were recognised for their achievements at an awards evening last week.

The annual GCSE certificate presentation evening last Thursday was one of the best so far, according to principal David Fitzsimmons.

The guest speaker, Carla Whittaker, was a pupil at the college from 1990 to 1995 and gave an entertaining and motivating talk regarding her visits to Canada and Australia and other formative experiences.

Mr Fitzsimmons said: "The content of the talk tied in well with the college's finding from Ofsted that we should constantly seek to raise aspirations.

"For many, the highlight of the evening was seeing Tanis Hannaford collect her GCSE certificates, having battled through long term illness, including taking her GCSE maths exams in Derriford Hospital.

"There was a tremendous round of applause for her when she came up to collect her certificates."
