TREKENNER Primary school saw a familiar face last week, Tuesday, July 2, when World War II evacuee, James Kerr, went to visit the area in which he grew up, writes Shannon Hards.
James and his brother, Harry, were a long way from home after being sent to Lezant, to avoid the London blitz, in 1940.
During their time in Cornwall, in which they stayed for nearly three years, the brothers attended Trekenner Primary school.
James said: "We were evacuated with 60 other children from South West London. My brother and I were first taken to Fleardon Farm, which is now an art centre. Then we were moved to Landew Lodge. During the first few months we had three different sets of 'foster' parents.
"We were terrified. It was all so alien to us."
He continued: "After leaving Landew, Harry and I were split up. He was sent to one Goodman in Trewollack and I was sent to his brother in Rezare."
