ELSIE Madeleine Stephens, formerly of Helcott Farm, North Petherwin, celebrated her 100th birthday on July 1. Elsie Madeleine and her family lived in the village for many years, and her father, George Fredrick Stephens, was buried in North Petherwin Church. She moved to London when she was younger, and trained at Guy's Hospital, where she became a highly respected physiotherapist. Family members, Verna and Raymond Jones, Ken and Gerald Turner, still in live in the Launceston area, along with Mary Matthews and family, formerly of Kilkhampton.
