IF FUNDING had not been secured for the running costs of Bude CCTV, the volunteer service would have come to an end in July.

Bude CCTV was installed in 2008 when Bude Neighbourhood Police set up a steering committee of volunteers, drawn from organisations in the town, and funding was granted.

Volunteers were DBS checked (previously CRB) and trained to monitor the cameras at the police station.

Bude CCTV has frequently aided and advised police in time to prevent damage to people and the environment, as well as provide adequate evidence to use in court.

It has been reported that crime in Bude "has been cut in half", which leads to saving police time and money.
