‘IT GETS better every year’, was the comment made by a number of people who visited the 34th annual flower festival held at the Delabole Methodist Church over the weekend of August 4 to 6.

The visitors were treated to some 30 colourful flower arrangements, skillfully staged. The theme for the festival was ‘I am’, and the arrangements depicted a range of themes, from the sayings of Jesus such as ‘I am the light of the world’, to ‘I am a skater, an organist, a bookworm and a twitcher’.

The festival was opened on the Friday with a short service led by Rev Bryan Ede, and concluded with a Songs of Praise on Sunday.

The festival service on the Sunday morning was based on the ‘I am’ theme. During the service, gifts to the church of organist’s tune books, the message version of the Bible and new mugs, given in memory of Mrs Peggy Wilton and Mrs Mary Uglow, were dedicated. The accompanists at all of the services were Helen Hicks and Stuart Biddick.

Refreshments were served by the members and friends of the church.

The floral arrangements are sponsored by community groups, with all donations being contributed to the Cornish Hospices, amounting to a total of £690.
