THE Holsworthy Hamlets Flower Club undertook a general ‘tidy up’ of the Barbara Pearson sculpture situated in Manor Court, Holsworthy.
Club members helped to weed the area and spread bark supplied by Torridge District Council.
The sculptures, entitled ‘Shelter’, created by Barbara Pearson, was presented to the people of Holsworthy by Dr Alex Pearson and his daughters, Heather and Jane who live in Mexico, in July 1999.
Barbara created the piece after she heard the news on the radio that a woman had sheltered a baby for four days after being buried by rubble following an earthquake in Mexico. After being freed, the baby unfortunately died. The sculpture was inspired by the incident and a cast is displayed in Mexico City.
