THE Cornish All Blacks gained revenge for a single point league defeat in London earlier in the season with a five try, five points display.
The visitors initially looked as though they would be a threat with a well organised pack which surprised The Blacks when it started to push them around a bit in the early stages. They had some nippy backs as well but were ill-disciplined at times (two yellow cards). Their efforts were rewarded with three very good tries.
The All Blacks linked backs and pack beautifully, looking equally pacey and inventive. In addition fly half Tony Yapp had his 'kicking boots' on.
Blackheath opened the scoring and led for 15 minutes when their fly half Paul Humphries kicked a second minute penalty. They began mounting some useful threequarter runs while the All Blacks seemed to be taking their usual first quarter to get up a head of steam. Blackheath flanker Paul Allen was sinbinned for a cynical punch which perhaps took off some of the pressure.
When the All Blacks launched their first meaningful attack Blackheath were penalised for holding on, Yapp kicked the penalty.
The All Blacks, who were now getting into proper gear, had stemmed the onslaught and began to put things together. There was a good ruck; the ball went out left and players were queueing up to take the ball on. Flanker Josh Lord, who had another very useful game, carried on the move and centre Ryan Westren raced clear to score. The All Blacks were now 10-3 up and were beginning to give notice of the entertaining running game they later produced when hooker James Salter raced 25 yards down the middle.
Blackheath's Lewis produced a jinking run but any visiting progress was again jeopardised by the yellow carding of prop Simon Legg for persistently coming in at the side and preventing release.
All Black number eight Sam Hocking produced a burst from a line out in the right corner. A scrum and maul as the All Black pack began to turn the screw until Blackheath pulled down the scrum just too many times and as a result conceded a penalty try.
At half time the All Blacks led 17-3 and continued in charge despite Blackheath scoring three tries.
Attack after attack from the home side ended with full back Jon Fabian making inroads in the loose and left wing Ben Turner popping up to shoot through to score on the left. Within five minutes Yapp added three more points when Blackheath centre Steve Hamilton was carded for a short arm on All Blacks skipper centre Mal Roberts.
The usual replacements began and just after the hour Blackheath scored their first try from Humphries. A lot of hard graft attacking and a good run by centre Richard Windsor and Lewis ended with Humphries taking the move on down the wing to go over to make it 27-8.
Back came the All Blacks again; a kick to the corner, a lineout, lock Bryn Jenkins taking, a maul, and a three man breakaway ending with flanker Lord cutting down; and a few minutes later Turner bagged his second try after some quality inter-passing for a 41-8 lead.
Blackheath reduced the deficit with tries from replacement forward James Cleverly and winger Tyson Lewis but only made a token effort to convert them as they battled in vain to get a fourth try and a bonus point.
