THE Fisherman's Friends — the sea shanty group from Port Isaac — went down a storm at the 'Post' charity gala, held at Penstowe Manor, Kilkhampton on Friday.
We are delighted to report that the event — now in its 21st year — raised in the region of £3,500 for the Children's Hospice South West.
A large crowd started gathering at the main entrance to Penstowe from 5.45pm — an hour-and-a-half before the start time!
When the doors were opened, they flocked in, eager to get a good seat for the evening of entertainment that lay ahead.
As always, there were a huge number of prizes donated for the raffle and money raised from this was a great boost to the final amount.
With sound checks done, the Fisherman's Friends waited in their dressing room backstage, tucking into pasties donated by Malcolm Barnecutt of Launceston.
After a short welcome by?Suzanne Cleave, 'Post' Deputy Editor, the first act, comedian Danny Posthill took to the stage.
He had everyone in fits of laughter with his jokes and impressions and he received a huge round of applause when he finished his routine.
