THE Holsworthy Carnival Committee have recently chosen this year’s Carnival Royalty – and it is the first time we have had new Royalty since 2019.

Last year the existing Carnival Queen held the position as the previous carnival was cancelled due to the pandemic.

However, there are a few other firsts for this year as far as the Royalty concerned.

Holsworthy Carnival Committee member Robin Mitchell said: “For the first time, we have a Carnival King instead of a Carnival Queen. His name is Samuel Hurst — he is 12 years old and goes to Holsworthy Community College. His brother also applied to be this year’s Carnival Prince – but the judges thought that it would be nice if 5 year old Thomas was an attendant for his elder brother – and they shared the float together.

“The other first this year is that we have identical twins as the Carnival Princesses. They are Darice and Olivia Bray – they are five years old – and go to Bridgerule Primary School.”

The Royalty were picked by an independent panel of judges and not by the Holsworthy Carnival Committee.

They were: Helen Parker (Holsworthy Mayor); Tegan Watson-Bell (Holsworthy’s Pretty Maid); Jamie and Jade Wonnacott (the current Carnival Queen and her Mum); and Sue Lindsey-Jones.

This year’s Carnival is on November 19.
