IT has taken 40 years, as the Holsworthy & District Lions was founded in 1976, but the club has finally gained its first women members.

Tammy Hutchings and Mel Allcorn have been attending meetings for the past couple of months but they were formally badged at the Lions’ business meeting on Thursday, October 6.

Kelly Musker, another new member, was not able to attend on that date and so will be officially badged at the next business meeting in a month’s time.

The three new members are also the youngest three members of the club. Their influence has been immediate as Mel and Tammy were both instrumental in setting up the Lions’ new website and Facebook page for Holsworthy Carnival which, as in the previous two years, is being organised by the Lions. The new website is at www.holsworthycarnival.co.uk and the carnival Facebook page is at www.facebook.com/HolsworthyLions and they contain information about this year’s carnival as well as contact details and entry forms.

Tammy and Mel will also be organising this year’s Lions’ children’s Christmas party which takes place in the Memorial Hall on Sunday, December 18.
