People turned out in their droves to see the latest spell binding production performed by Launceston Amateur Theatrical Society (LADS) last week, writes Amelia Chubb.
Cinderella was the first pantomime to be presented by LADS in the town hall since its refurbishment and the specially painted backdrops were complemented by lighting and special effects.
The traditional Cinderella story, by Peter Long and Keith Rawnsley, was brought up-to-date with comical one liners, puns, modern music and even featured scenes from other popular children's classics.
The forgetful Fairy Godmother played by Marlene Jewell, aptly donned a 'bootiful' Cornish accent and a magical blue, irreplaceable brolly. She kick started the production when she promised to find Cinderella (Cathy Parkin) the man of her dreams.
The story, set in the land of Stoneybroke, saw humourous characters, including the 'ugly step sisters' Whitney (Brian Donahue) and Britney (Dave Shrimpton) Harduppe generate laughter with their 'cheeky girl' and 'kiss me honey honey' duets. Their colourful attire coordinating with their 'girl next door' performances.
Jo Taskis as Prince Charming, and Sarah Aunger as Dandini, were confident in their roles, which were reversed at one point as part of Prince Charming's ploy to capture the heart of Cinderella.
