WITH new Bowood Park Seniors' captain Dick Eagle at the helm we had some mixed results in the matches during March with victories at Newquay and at home against Staddon Heights and Holsworthy but away defeats at Tehidy Park and Carlyon Bay.

Our new fixture this year at Killiow was a difficult match with the first six games all wins for the home side but fortunately for Bowood Park their last two pairs managed victories for a 6-2 defeat. The winning pairs were Dave Dungate & Bill Trewin and Bill Wareham & Dave Tonkin.

The next two matches were convincing home victories against Roserrow 7-1 and West Cornwall 6-2. Alan May had his first hole in one on the second hole in this fixture. Congratulations Alan.

The weather forecast was not very good for the trip to Falmouth on April 9 and the match was played in very wet and windy conditions which seemed to favour the home side who won convincingly 7-1, the only point for the away side scored by Dave Lawton and captain Dick Eagle.

A home match against neighbours St Enodoc was hard fought with quite a few of the matches going to the last two holes before the home side won 41/2-31/2. The nearest the pins for the bottles of wine were: St Enodoc, Ian Day, and for Bowood, Terry Ainsworth.

The vice-captain John Green was in charge at Trethorne and was pleased with a very close victory waiting for the result of the last group to decide the match. The final pair for the away side, David Curnow & Terry Ainsworth, with a convincing 6&5 win won the match for Bowood Park 41/2-31/2. Alan Stockwell won the bottle of wine for nearest the pin.

John was also in charge for the return fixture at West Cornwall but the away side only managed one win, by Alec Luckin & Bob Lemza with a half from Ken Metcalfe & Paul Vickery to lose 61/2-11/2. Bob Lemza won the bottle of wine.

The first round of the Summer Eclectic was played in very windy conditions making scoring difficult and Don Teague won with 37pts; 2nd, Don Tanner 35; 3rd, Dick Eagle 34 who had the only two winning nine golf balls. The second round was won by Paul Vickery 38pts; 2nd, Bill Trewin 34; 3rd, Bob Lemza also 34.

The scores after two rounds are: Don Teague 44; 2nd, Bill Trewin and Paul Vickery both 43.

The first round of the Harbinson Cup was played in excellent weather but the scores didn't reflect it. The winner was captain Dick Eagle 91-18=73; 2nd, Richard Parsons 84-10=74; 3rd, John Harbinson 95-17=78. A welcome return to the golf course from Steve Steadman after his ankle problems over the last year. Steve won six golf ball for the only two.

Richard Parsons.
