HOLSWORTHY Golf Club professional Dan Wood had his first cap for Devon Professionals in a match against Cornwall PGA on Wednesday November 4. The Devon team ran out 9-6 victors and Dan won his singles match 2 and 1 against Mark Rowe from Carlyon Bay. The match was played at Royal North Devon in galeforce winds.
Aside from the aptly named Winter League the only competition of note at Holsworthy to escape the ravages of the weather was the Veterans Thursday roll-up.
Carry bags was the order of the day with some brave souls making the trip back home to get a bag in order to have a go in the nine holes medal nine holes stableford competition.
Ray Holness with 14 topped the division one contenders with 16s by Alan Abrams and Colin Walmsley whilst in division two Mike Herbert and Bob Bentham had 20s, Syd Pinder taking third place on 21. The real winner of the day was the Poppy Appeal with players and non-players contributing to raise £200.
Brian Axford and Reg Daniels currently lead the way in the Winter League with 8 points each with Gwen Adams and Pauline Bezzant best of the ladies each having 7 points.
