FIREFIGHTERS in Launceston have been kept busy — not just dealing with emergencies but also fundraising more than £800 for a St Austell colleague.

Retained St Austell firefighter and plumber Jason Bragg has recently been diagnosed with cancer of the bowel, liver, lymph nodes and peritoneum and colleagues at Launceston Fire Station decided to help.

As a family man, father to five-year-old Elizah and one-year-old twins Oscar and George, Jason along with his partner Lizzie are keen to make some precious memories and have financial security for the future.

Fundraising efforts from Launceston firefighters included a one-month swearing ban during time spent at the station — each expletive costing 50p!

There was also a charity football match between Launceston Fire Station and Launceston Police Station and participants donated. Sporting rivalry resulted in a 11 – 9 win for the fire and rescue service at the well supported game.

They have so far raised £817.

The firefighters expressed their thanks to St Joseph’s School for use of the all weather pitch, Tesco of Launceston and Philip Warren Butchers for sponsoring the game and Launceston Police Station.
