LAUNCESTON youngster, Liam Sillifant, has been chosen to receive a grant from the Lord Lieutenant's Fund for Youth.

The latest round of awards are already making a real difference to the dreams and career prospects of young people from Cornwall in sport and the arts.

Grants worth more than £3,000 have been made to five teenagers who've shown outstanding talent or aptitude in their chosen field, but whose development is being affected by personal or family hardship, or disability.

The money is helping their travel, training and equipment costs in pursuits like judo, badminton and hockey, music and dance.

At the age of six, Liam was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and then at 12 with Asperger's Syndrome.

His mum Kerry explained: "Because of his condition, we got Liam involved in sport to improve his co-ordination and confidence."
