BUDE Colts made the long journey to Falmouth fired up to finally get a win under their belts, writes Sam Latter.

Possibly the smallest second rows in Colts history, Steven Bromich and Ross Bailey, got straight into their roles and proved height does not always matter.

Bude's forwards Liam Reynolds, Chris Allen, Captain Michael Beckley and number 8 Paul Crocker dominated the home side with hits that could smash through walls.

Throughout the whole first half Bude were on top and hooker Danny Abbot didn't lose one scrum. Dan Bright and Will Shepherd made some huge hits, but unfortunately Falmouth managed to score a try just before half time making it 5-0 as the whistle blew.

Straight from the second half kick off with the slope in Bude's favour, the backs performed the best link up play all season with Greenwood, Hutchings, Mansfield and Cavanagh, breaking through their defence like men on a mission. However, a few missed tackles resulted in another two Falmouth tries making the score 19-0.

This didn't affect Bude's state of mind and Mr. Perfect Jonny Stephens boshed through four tackles to set up the heroic Mikey Beckley to flop over the line for try of the season. Ben Mansfield slotted it over with no problem.

The final score was 19-7. Nevertheless it was a moral victory for this Bude team as they gave it 100 per cent like usual and played their hearts out. Scrum half Tom Greenwood performed superbly with passes that looked as if they had been fired from a cannon!

Man of the match went to Chrissy Allen who played as if he had been cloned with a young Phil Vickery, making his opponents look invisible! Well done to all players and head coach Bert Stephens for this remarkable display.
