A PAIR of oak Pier cabinets outshone all items at Kivells live online select antiques auction at Holsworthy Auction Room.
The cabinets appeared on BBC Antiques Roadshow some ten years ago. Fierce bidding in the room, on the telephone and on the internet saw the initial bid rise rapidly through the thousands — eventually the cabinets sold to an online bidder. The sale price of £12,500 is an all time record for Kivells' auction room.
Another well-contested lot was four pieces of Hans Coper and Lucie Rie pottery, which sold well above expectations to another online bidder at £2,000.
A collection of 17 Moorcroft pieces all sold well with pick of the bunch being a blue plum vase 7ins-high selling at £460 and a 9ins-high Cornucopia vase at £280.
Among a good selection of jewellery an 18ct gold seven-diamond ring sold at £540 and a 15ct gold and seed pearl necklace at £390.
In the silver section a spirit kettle at £410 and four Mappin and Webb toast racks at £120.
Furniture showed some promise with a large oak three-drawer table selling in the room at £1,050, a mahogany and brass bound kneehole desk at £640 and an oak library chair/steps at £150.
Other good prices included a 19th century French bronze cherub £210, glass cornucopia on ormolu and marble base £600, a pair of hardwood mirrors £200, a Beswick rearing Lipizzaner and rider £190, an Ercol three-piece suite at £180, pine kitchen table at £390 and a 2ins scents flask at £65.
