A SUMMER fete at Launceston Hospital on Saturday, July 11 organised by the League of Friends, has helped raise money for an extension to the minor injuries unit, writes Helen Pusey.

The fete in the hospital grounds was officially opened by the Rev Mary Williamson, who spoke of fond memories she had as a nurse training prior to her ordination. She commented on the importance of the minor injuries unit in Launceston and said she had used it herself and how fortunate local people were to have it.

Four-year-old Jessica Striplin presented Mrs Williamson with a bouquet of flowers, before Launceston Town Band filled the air with music.

There were plenty of stalls and a raffle was available with excellent prizes, including a Cornish hamper. The League of Friends held a Christmas card and book stall.

Cornwall Blood Bikes were also invited and a motorcycle was on display for people to view and the children to sit on.

Rodger Alway, rider for Cornwall Blood Bikes, said: "It's a lovely day and a beautiful location. It is nice that the League of Friends have allowed us here to promote our service. It may mean people will think of us when they want to support a charity at their next event."
