THE Dunheved Flower and Garden Group held its meeting on Thursday, November 18, at Launceston Central Methodist Main Church Hall.

The meeting was opened by the chairman John Ellacott, who welcomed members, thanking them for supporting the coach trip last month, also amending the December 16 meeting when club funds would supply a mince pie and cream afternoon tea party.

John then introduced Pat Penno for a return visit of afternoon display mixed flower arrangement builds for Christmas.

Her first arrangement being a symmetrical design soon began to take shape, talking her way through as she snipped and cut her flowers, twigs and leaves into shape. Florist’s and demonstrators were now returning back to jam jars or wire, leaving out any of the plastic related ways to hold the display together. Placing a few cones and a couple of candles around the warm coloured flowers completed Pat’s first Christmas table arrangement.

Display two’s set build was “quick and easy” a few twigs from her garden some more cones, eight tall orange gerbera daisy’s, popped them into some test tubes held firm in a piece of wood, keep them well watered, job done.

Arrangement three, an ‘all round table display’, used a recycled deep large container lid. Starting at the top high point Pat kept adding all around as she worked down to fill the lid, again natural greenery from her garden, cones, bamboo then that wonderful splash of red roses to complete.

Pat’s fourth display was in Christmas tree style. Raiding her hedgerow Pat used leylandii, laurel, holly and ivy, popped in a few cones, this time tall ones sprayed silver, added sprigs with berry’s and made sure the base TC pot was secure to stand up. Pat worked to the top, adding a star made of small willow branches, before moving on to display five.

Take one tall candle placed near to the centre, add some greenery, a few curling aspidistra leaves, rosemary for remembrance, some white myrtle, pink lisianthus and (dianthus) pinks, arrange with that touch of her magic skill, stand back and admire.

John thanked Pat for another splendid demonstration for all to enjoy watching.

The group then held a grand draw with each of the displays finding a place in member’s homes for Christmas.
