SO Mr Timbrell thinks we should be educated like him!
His contention is that the national politicians of today and, by implication, the government are controlled by 50 unelected bankers from the City of London. Get in the real world John.
I think that we can agree that the cause of the crash in 2008 was the sub prime mortgage fiasco as a result of legislation passed in Washington by American politicians coupled with the removal of control of banks in this country from the Bank of England to a triumvirate of the Bank of England/Financial Services Authority and the Treasury by the Chancellor of the day who had banished boom and bust.
This latter legislation was passed in the House of Commons but the Rememberancer did not stop it because he has no jurisdiction over the elected government of the day – by the way the present incumbent is a lawyer not a banker.
He is right that when a loan is made by the banks it is added to the deposits and thus more money can be lent but the Bank of England used to control this and the money supply by increasing deposits from the clearing banks and issuing gilts which the banks had to buy.
It was the loss of this control and the confusion as to who does what by the authorities that led to crash as admitted by Ed Milliband in the election campaign.
This is now trying to be clawed back by the FSA and Bank of England by increasing banks' capital.
Having read through the Commons report of November 21 last I can see nothing from which you can deduce that the world is governed by 50 unelected bankers.
With his fertile imagination and talent for seeing conspiracies everywhere perhaps John Timbrell should join other well know Forest authors Dennis Potter and J K Rowling and use his fantasy education to write fairy tales.
