A CASE of chalara dieback in an ash tree is believed to be found in the Holsworthy area.
The Forestry Commission (FC) describes chalara dieback as a disease that infects all species of Ash tree and causes 'leaf loss and crown dieback in affected trees, and usually leads to tree death.'
Once a tree has been confirmed with the disease, it cannot be cured, however, wood products would not spread the disease if treated properly and some trees may have a genetic resistance.
The 'Post' was contacted by a resident in the area who believed that the disease had infected one of her trees and was concerned it would spread. She later said the case was being investigated.
