A FASHION show was held at Launceston Town Hall on Wednesday, October 5, which raised £1,113 towards the cost of the Christmas lights in the town, writes David Sillifant.

Over 300 people packed into the town hall to see six local businesses allow models to showcase their shops, while Just off the Square, Short Circuits, Lokaroma, Bek Design and Country Chic all brought along sale stalls. This was the second time that the event had taken place, the first being two years ago.

Owner of Hazard and organiser, Sue Issleib, was delighted with how the evening went.

Sue said: “It was a really enjoyable evening and we managed to raise an excellent figure to help towards the cost of the Christmas lights.

“Not only that, the event allows some of the newer local shops to promote themselves to the local public and show them that there are excellent shops in Launceston available to them.”

In preparation for the show, each business was tasked with finding their own models for their 10/15 minute slots, with participants ranging from 14 up to over 50.

With the doors opening at 6.30pm, an hour before the scheduled start, it wasn’t long before the venue was filled to capacity.

Before the mid-session interval at 8.30pm, David Parish Menswear, Lowen Bridal, Sazzyloo and Undercover, all showed off their finest accessories to the crowd.

Once they had finished doing their thing, there was a half an hour break to give the audience a chance to settle down and take a drink from the bar, which was run by Adi Harvey from No 8.

It was then left to Nomads and Hazard to bring the curtain down on the evening, which was followed by a rapturous round of applause from the crowd.

Sue was especially pleased with the response she has received from the public.

She said: “The town hall was packed and it seems from the feedback that we have heard, that people had a really good time and that’s what it’s all about.

“Hopefully now they realise, if they didn’t before, that Launceston is a place where you can get all the clothes and fashion items you need.”
