THE Camelford committee of Cancer Research UK had its 41st annual general meeting at the Fore Street Methodist Church recently, and were delighted to hand over a cheque for £13,600.

The chairman, Pam Boundy, welcomed everyone to the meeting, especially Kim Hammerton, local fundraising manager, and David Flower.

Honorary secretary Madge Walkey reported on the year’s activities, which have resulted in another very successful year for the charity.

The highlight of the year was the celebratory 40th birthday cream teas, held at Bowood Park Golf Club in June.

The guest of honour was the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonal Edward Bolitho, and the occasion was much enjoyed by all present.

Madge thanked David Flower and Adrian Jasper, local photographers, for their help and support.

Madge said, as a committee, they were indebted to countless individuals and organisations who support the committee in so many ways throughout the year, and to the residents of Camelford and district for their unfailing support.

She said without their help, the committee wouldn’t have been able to achieve the results that they had.

The honorary secretary concluded her remarks by saying the committee was now entering its 42nd year of fundraising and was looking forward to continuing its work.

Honorary treasurer, Sally Moore, gave a very detailed financial report and then presented Kim with a cheque for £13,600, which she accepted by saying it was an incredible amount to have been raised by the committee during the past year.

She thanked the committee for its efforts and also thanked the people of Camelford and district for their support.

Pam, Sally and Madge were then re-elected as officers.

Also re-elected to serve on the committee were Enid Andrews, Ang Goodman, Nicky Hill, Pam Lyons, Lynn Oliver and Jan Stratfield.

Pauline Martin and Jennifer May were also elected to serve on the committee.

Kim gave a very comprehensive and informative resume of the research currently being funded by Cancer Research UK and stressed the importance of fundraising being done throughout the country in order to finance the research.

Kim concluded her remarks by once again thanking the committee for the cheque and congratulating them on another very successful year.

Lynn Oliver, who was unable to attend the meeting, was due to receive recognition of over 20 years’ service on the committee, so the presentation of her badge will take place at a later date.
