THE Bude Surf Life Saving Club hopes to welcome many adventurous swimmers to Crooklets Beach on Christmas morning for the ‘Mike Moyle Memorial Christmas Day Swim’.

For those taking part, registration starts at 9.45am in the gear store to the side of the clubhouse — all swimmers will need to collect a wristband.

Bring a completed registration form on the day — either download the registration/donation form from www.budeslsc.co.uk or collect one from Zuma Jay Surf Shop in Belle View Lane, Bude.

Top tips for the Christmas day swimmers are: make sure registration forms and donations are ready; leave wetsuits at home but do wear some shoes/flip-flops on the beach to keep feet warm; have a ‘swim caddy’ prepared — this could be a family member or friend who can supply warm clothes, a towel etc; position a swim caddy on the beach at 10.50am; be at the start line by 10.55am — whistle will be blown at 11am sharp; run like mad into the surf, splashing all the way — it’s not as cold as people may imagine; finally, come to the clubhouse for a hot chocolate, mulled wine and hot sausage rolls — all swimmers will have earned it.

This event is the Bude Surf Life Saving Club’s main fundraising event of the year.

Bude was the first UK Surf Life Saving Cub founded in 1953 and continues to assist RNLI lifeguards in busy periods, educate youngsters to be safe in the sea and train the future beach lifeguards. So all donations will be much appreciated.

Those donating or raising £30 or more can claim a souvenir t-shirt with a great new Christmas design. The clubhouse will be open to all with changing rooms and festive refreshments available.
