CORNWALL'S most famous smugglers' hostelry, renowned for inspiring Daphne du Maurier's bestselling novel, has been put on the market, after owners John and Wendy Watts announced their intention to retire.

The Jamaica Inn at Bolventor on?Bodmin Moor was immortalised in du Maurier's best selling novel of the same title; its eerie setting and sparse surroundings the inspiration behind her famous tale of villainous wreckers.

The book was later adapted into a 1939 Hitchcock film and a 1983 television series. The story will be returning to screens later this year in a new BBC adaptation.
