WHEN it comes to fair play the sporting pupils at Sir James Smith's Community School in Camelford are unbeatable.

For the third year running the students from the school have won the 'Fair Play' trophy at the North Cornwall Youth Games.

The games were held on April 30, in the grounds of Launceston College. During the event students and staff running the activities voted for outstanding sportsmanship and behaviour among the competitors, and for a successive third year selected the young people from Sir Jim's.

Head of PE at Sir James Smith's, Nick

Eacott, explained that the award prompted the competition manager to say to him that 'it must say something about your kids'.

Mr Eacott said: "We were very proud of them."

Seventy students from Sir James Smith's competed against athletes from other North Cornwall schools in almost a dozen activities during the afternoon.

They had an exceptional afternoon – winning the 'Pump it Up' dance contest and the Year 7 rounders, and coming second in a number of activities, those particularly of note being the Year 9 football and the Year 10 dance.

The activities were run and officiated by leaders from the participating schools.
