A VERY busy week for Dunheved Bowling Club started with the quartet of Peter & Judith Prynne and Brian & Rhona Keighley retaining the Open Tavistock Mixed Fours competition, the first time a rink had achieved this in the competition's history.
Two County League games for the 'B' team, firstly against Kensey Vale 'C' who won 72-42 (4-1pts): W Shute, D Chesham, M Woodward, B Lane 17-16; J Hake, P Freestone, V Squire, P Vernon 6-31; L Daniel, S Maynard, P Northmore, M Wood 19-25.
Away to Wadebridge 'B' there was not much joy either, losing 83-45 (41/2-1/2): J Hake, D Chesham, P Vernon, M Wood 19-19; W Shute, S Maynard, F Maynard, B Lane 15-34; M Emery. P North-more, V Squire, J Moir 11-30.
The 'A' team were in action at Lostwithiel in the Top Team, always a tricky one as it proved once again with Lostwithiel winning 4-1: 2 Wood, D Bridgman 8-18; 4 Wood, B Keighley 21-8; Pairs, E Cockwill & G Littlejohns 10-33; Triples, R Gribble, B Harris, C Fishleigh 7-33; Rink, G Davey, C Down, B Kirby, A L Fry 13-28.
On Wednesday night the Croydon Marks was played against Bodmin, what a marathon this was, team tied after 21 and 22 ends with Bodmin winning by 2 shots on the 23 end (61-59): B Davey, C Down, R Gribble, C Fishleigh, 16-23; E Cockwill, G Littlejohns, D Bennett, D Bridgman 24-19; A L Fry. B Kirby, B Harris, B Keighley 19-19.
The next night the 'A' team played Camelford 'A' at home in the County League, not a good result for the home team a whitewash by Camelford 71-46 (5-0): M Gregory, B Kirby, G Davey, B Harris 14-22; B Davey, C Down, R Gribble, C Fishleigh 18-19; E Cockwill, G Littlejohns, D Bennett, D Bridgman 14-30.
Saturday saw the first of the all day round robin events, the Martins Triples. With ten triples taking part a good day's bowling went to the last round with F Wood, E Cockwill and R Gribble winning on shot difference. The usual thanks went to the ladies for a wonderful lunch, and a good draw made the whole day a wonderful success.
To finish the week we played the Millennium at home against Bodmin 'A', a see saw game with Bodmin passing the post first (60-48): B Chanter, B Harris, J Prynne, P Prynne 28-11; B Davey, A Japes, F Wood, D Bridgman 7-28; G Davey, A Wooldridge, M Lane, B Keighley 13-21.
B Keighley won his Secretaries Cup game, P Prynne, J Prynne and D Bridgman won their Mixed Triples.
Ladies
Tamar League — Won 21-19 v Liskeard: P Blake, B Isaac, M Gribble and J Prynne.
Rippon Cup — Lost 13-22 to Kensey Vale: A Wooldridge, A Japes, M Gribble and M Lane.
Gawler Cup — A win for F Wood and B Chanter.
