AN EVENING of cockroach racing at the White Hart, Holsworthy, has helped raise important funds in aid of the Holsworthy Scouts attending the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in the summer and the annual St Peter's Fair events.

Filled with fun and camaraderie by all involved, the event was attended by people from as far as Bideford and South Petherwin, who cheered on as their cartoon cockroaches raced to the finish line in the hope of winning prizes. Explorer Scouts, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers were also present.

A total of £350 was raised towards the Scouts' Jamboree trip that will see three of the Scouts, Abigail Stone, Abigail Johnson and Hannah Presswell, heading to Japan with Holsworthy assistant Beaver and Head Scout, Kirstie Stone.
