BUDE Croquet Club has had its licence extended at the old tennis court grounds in the town until April 1, 2018, the latest Bude-Stratton Town Council meeting heard on Thursday, October 5.
The club has proved a massive hit in the town since it was started last year and have used the site as their base, which hadn’t been used by anyone in recent years.
Mayor, Peter Moores, said: “The croquet club have done a fantastic job in making the grounds useable again.”
Cllr Bob Willingham floated the idea of extending the lease until October 31 next year, however Cllr Moores explained that the croquet club are making use of the pitch and putt facility from next April.
Cllr Moores said: “The pitch and putt will hopefully be up and running in April, so that’s why the licence is until then.”
“They’ve picked up the site and turned it around. No-one was interested in it before, so that’s a good enough reason for them to use it,” added Cllr Willingham.
The existing licence was due to end on Tuesday, October 31, however the town council were unanimous in their decision to extend it on a peppercorn rent until April 1, 2018.
