IRVING Berlin may have penned the lyrics 'There may be trouble ahead,' but there could be none more apt that the current situation facing Camelford Town Council.

While a new councillor was recently elected onto the council, three others have tendered their resignations.

Deputy Mayor Aaron Scawn, Brian Lush and Eddie McCormick have all written to the clerk, Mrs Marian Sedgewick, announcing their resignation — and the reasons behind the decision.

Tensions have been brewing in the council for a number of months.

In February, Cllr Bob Ireland resigned from the council, telling the 'Post' that he left as a result of "a serious disagreement."

The 'Post' has since found out that the Mayor, Cllr Robert Rotchell is currently being investigated for an alleged breach of the Code of Conduct (see separate article).

On Thursday, May 3, an election was held to fill the vacancy left by Cllr Ireland. Three candidates stood — Jenny Finch, Alan Burgis and Lou Mason.
