CROWDS gathered in large number once again this year to witness the opening procession of Kilkhampton Fete.

A unique carriage, pulled by a vintage tractor, transported the event royalty along with the procession in what was one of the highlights of the day.

The crowning of Rebecca Cottle as Kilkhampton Fete Queen was officiated by church reader, Gloria Street, and performed by Susan Tullock (née Palmer), formally of Rhude Farm, Kilkhampton, who was the fete queen 30 years ago.

Bideford Youth's pipe band led the large procession and a host of colourful children, ponies, and children's entertainers through the village to Lamb Park, where the fete was officially opened.

A motorbike show, vintage cars, pet's corner, birds of prey, children's fairground, Aunt Sally, a large number of stalls and local crafts, teas, games, a barbecue and ice creams were all on hand.

'Cool Hand Luke' entertained the crowds with his amazing, jaw dropping, fire juggling antics. Live music was later performed by the Bude Metric Band, Tony Jordan, Alex Rushton and family favourites from Archie's Disco. An excellent firework display rounded off a very enjoyable, successful day.

Winners of the fancy dress competition were: first place, Rosie Metherell (Jess the Cat) and young Finann Sealy (riding a miniature pony, Takka, as a knight in shining armour); second place, Jade and Zara Turner and Christopher Pool and third place, Molly East and Ashton Laidler.
